Does Verizon maintain payphones?

Not any more.

Verizon exited the payphone business altogether with its sale of assets to Pacific Telemanagement Services (PTS), making PTS the nation’s largest payphone service provider.

If your property has a non-working payphone with Bell Atlantic or Verizon branding on it and you want it removed you should be able to contact Verizon for its removal.

If you would like to have that payphone restored to active service then PTS might be your first stop, though there is no guarantee that they will be available.

Verizon no longer maintains the public telephones themselves, but in many areas the telcom giant is responsible for providing the copper landline and dial tone to public phones. Verizon frequently refuses to provide this service.
